  • Western Health Strategic Directions Survey

The current Western Health Strategic Plan covers 2021-2023, and we are looking to refresh our strategy for the years ahead. Over the next 6 months, we will be working with you to review and update the strategy to ensure we continue to reflect what is most important to our patients, staff, communities and partners.

In recognition of our rapidly changing environment, our existing strategy is a ‘living’ strategy. This allows us to – within the 5 Strategic Directions – adapt to emerging or unforeseen opportunities, respond swiftly to changes and adopt new technology and ideas.

We are keen to hear your view about Western Health’s future strategic direction, what has changed and what we should focus on going forward. Please take a few minutes to complete this survey and let us know your thoughts!

The survey is open until 25th January and can be accessed via this link.

  • EMR Ward Walkaround and Training Information Kiosks

As preparations for the EMR Phase 2.1 Go-Live increase, the Digital Health Learning and Development team will soon be visiting Western Health’s EMR sites to provide staff with training and support information.

The team will hold Training Information Kiosks at designated locations in January and February giving staff an opportunity to visit at a time of their choosing to privately chat about EMR Phase 2.1 training, particularly for new staff. The Training Information Kiosks will run from 12:30pm to 2:00pm on the following days:

    Site Location Dates
Footscray Outside the security office near main reception January 16th, 17th, 19th, 20th
    February 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th
Sunshine Outside the public Pharmacy on the ground floor January 16th, 17th, 18th, 19th, 20th
    February 6th, 7th, 9th, 10th
Williamstown Ground floor staff breakout area, near courtyard January 18th
    February 8th

In addition to the information kiosks, the Digital Health Learning & Development team are currently liaising with NUM’s, MUM’s and unit heads to schedule Ward Walkarounds between 13th – 17th and 20th – 24th February at a suitable time for each area.

This will give staff a chance to learn about the upcoming EMR training opportunities, seek assistance with signing up to WeLearn and Super User training, or ask questions about the upcoming EMR Phase 2.1 implementation. As the dates and times for the Ward Walkarounds are confirmed they will be published on the Digital Health information site.

The information kiosks and ward walkarounds were an invaluable training and communications tool during EMR Phase 1, and the Learning and Development team are looking forward to engaging further with staff in the build-up to the EMR Phase 2.1 Go-Live.

  • Listen to Episode three of the Western Health family violence podcast: escalation during pregnancy and impact on children.

Content warning: domestic abuse and family violence.

For many women, finding out that they are pregnant or welcoming a new baby into the world marks an exciting new phase of their lives. But for some, pregnancy can be a dangerous time – with the abusive and controlling behaviour of their partners turning violent, or existing violence in a relationship escalating particularly if the pregnancy is unplanned or unwanted.

In this episode, we again hear from Assunta Morrone – Manager, Strengthening Hospital Responses to Family Violence at Western Health – who talks about family violence during pregnancy; why it’s a time of greater risk; and the association with negative health outcomes for the foetus, mother and child.

Assunta shares how children can be direct or indirect targets of family violence; the long-term impacts of childhood trauma; and how important it is for clinical staff to intervene early.

Both Assunta and senior midwife Emma Greelish provide practical advice about what clinical staff can do if they suspect a pregnant patient or a child is experiencing family violence.
