The National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards provide a nationally consistent statement of  the level of care consumers can expect from health services.

Western Health undergoes mandatory assessment against the eight NSQHS Standards. This takes the form of 3 yearly organisation-wide accreditation surveys.

NSQHS Standards compliance activity and accreditation surveys supports us to monitor, review and continually improve Best Care. The 8 Standards are listed in the following table:

Std 1: Clinical Governance Std 2: Partnering with Consumers Std 3: Infection Prevention Std 4: Medication Safety
Std 5: Comprehensive Care Std 6: Communicating for Safety Std 7: Blood Management Std 8: Acute Deterioration

  • Western Health’s NSQHS Standard Accreditation Survey, 2-6 March 2020

Western Health participated in an organisation wide Accreditation against the eight National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards from March 2nd – March 6th, 2020. Western Health received the final Accreditation report from ACHS in May 2020. The report highlights the achievements of Western Health with all nine assessors conveying their positive feedback in relation to our services, advising we have met all of the requirements for continued Accreditation, with no formal recommendations made.

The primary aim of the eight NSQHS Standards (2nd Edition) is to protect the public from harm and improve the quality of health care.

The ACHS Accreditation report reflects that Western Health has been successful with translating knowledge of Best Care from Board to Ward, and the Live Best Care approach has been broadly adopted at point of care. The ACHS Final Report of Western Health’s assessment against the NSQHS Standards (2nd Edition) can be viewed at this link.

The NSQHS Standard Accreditation Certificate for Western Health can be viewed at this link.

The positive feedback received from the assessors is recognition of the continued dedication of Western Health staff and volunteers to provide Best Care for our community.  Western Health staff and volunteers should be very proud.
