I’m pleased to advise that clinical operations will commence in the new Sunshine Mental Health and Wellbeing Centre on Thursday 19 October, marking a significant development in the provision of mental health and wellbeing services at Western Health and for our community.

Since practical completion in August of this year, staff in Mental Health and Wellbeing Services and the broader project teams have undertaken a substantial amount of work to ensure the clinical readiness of this purpose-built facility.

A thorough transitioning and commissioning period, including scenario testing, a mock move and extensive training and orientation has been undertaken, and I thank staff for their huge efforts to ensure we are able to provide safe, high-quality care to our consumers.

The new facility has been designed to provide a welcoming and responsive environment for consumers and staff, featuring contemporary design; access to courtyards and greenery; warm, inviting materials and furniture; and a range of spaces for social, therapeutic and recreational activities.

The Sunshine Mental Health and Wellbeing Centre will be overseen operationally by the Mental Health and Wellbeing Services Division, led by General Manager, Adj Professor Paula Stephenson, with Jolene Geh as Divisional Director, Dr Naveen Thomas as Clinical Services Director and Ryan Dube as Director of Nursing.

Further information about the new facility and the broader transition and integration is available via Westerly.

Thank you to everyone across our service for your part in delivering this important development at Sunshine Hospital that will enable Western Health to provide timely and accessible mental health care to our communities in the growing western suburbs.
