It’s always important to take the time to recognise the incredible people we have working here at Western Health, and last night we celebrated our long-serving staff at the 2023 Employee Service Award Presentations.

An impressive 604 people were recognised for their ongoing dedication to Western Health, ranging from 10 years through to 50 years of service. This included staff based at all campuses of our health service, in varying roles.

Two staff members celebrated a very monumental 50 years of service, that’s a century of dedication to Western Health by just two people! Congratulations to Dorn Addison and Lyn Tyrrell (pictured right with Robyn and me) on this incredible achievement.

Dorn is a member of the Social Work department who first joined Western Health at Williamstown Hospital as a Handcraft Instructor, running the Day Hospital together with the Newport Red Cross. Over the years Dorn has undertaken further studies, including a Bachelor of Social Work. She officially joined the Social Work Department in 1976, where she remains working today.

Lyn is a Transcriptionist in the Medical Imaging Department at Footscray Hospital. Lyn commenced with Western Health in 1973 as a Typist and Office Clerk and has continued to work within Medical Imaging at Western Hospital throughout her employment.

I really enjoyed hearing about the different journeys through Western Health, from where people started many years ago to their roles today.

Congratulations and thank you to all of our staff who have dedicated so many years to Western Health. Your commitment and hard work ensures that the delivery of best care continues as we work to improve the health and wellbeing of the people of Melbourne’s West.
