The Sunshine Mental Health and Wellbeing Centre is a 52-bed unit that provides mental health assessment, treatment and care for people who are experiencing mental ill-health.  

A direct response to the Royal Commission into Victoria’s Mental Health, the Sunshine Mental Health and Wellbeing Centre’s 52 bed capacity aims to reduce pressure on emergency departments and provide additional support for people experiencing mental ill-health who require immediate treatment in a contemporary, safe and high-quality setting.

About the Sunshine Mental Health and Wellbeing Centre: 

The Sunshine Mental Health and Wellbeing Centre is a direct result of the Royal Commission into Mental Health, marking a significant development in the provision of mental health and wellbeing services at Western Health and for our community. 

The Sunshine Mental Health and Wellbeing Centre is a multi-storey facility with two Mental Health Adult Acute Units, each comprising of 26 beds. 

  • 6 intensive care beds, referred to as Intensive Care Area (ICA) 
  • 6 medium care beds, referred to as Medium Care Area (MCA) 
  • 14 general care beds, referred to as General Care Area (GCA) 

The Victorian Government has invested $492 million to deliver 144 new acute public mental health beds, including the 52 new Adult Inpatient Beds at Sunshine Hospital.
