Welcome to your latest Transition News

Hello and welcome to your latest Transition News.

The end of the year serves as a good time for reflection of all that we have achieved together at Western Health. The ongoing transition and integration of Bacchus Marsh and Melton into Western Health continues to make me proud. It certainly feels like it to me and hopefully you as well that our Bacchus Marsh and Melton colleagues have always been a part of the Western family.

Whilst there is always still some work to do to ensure we realise all the benefits of the integration of two health services, the active phase of the transition project is drawing to a close. To that end, Integrated Community Health Services will integrate into the Chronic and Complex Division by the end of the year, as well as a number of clinical and non-clinical services and teams. We envisage all services and teams to have integrated by March 2023 and this will signal Bacchus Marsh and Melton entering into a business-as-usual operations framework.

It is also great to see that the capital works at Bacchus Marsh have recently reached another milestone, with Maternity renovations now complete and the ward back to operating to full capacity. A massive thank you and well done to the entire maternity team for continuing to provide Best Care to expectant mums and their bubs, despite the challenges and interruptions caused by these capital works.

I would like to say a big thank you to all the staff from Bacchus Marsh and Melton for completing the People Matter Survey. You had the third highest survey response rate at Western Health! I know how hard it is to find the time to complete the survey and as you may have heard, I read every free text comment from staff and look forward to reading your feedback on what we’re doing well and what we can do better. These results will be collated and shared, including some of our actions we will lead in response to your feedback.

In closing, I hope you all have a great festive season and best wishes for the New Year, and a big thank you to all of you for the great work you do and have done to support each other, our patients, and our communities.

Kind Regards,

Russell Harrison
Chief Executive

NEW SIGNAGE AT MELTON

A break in the rain has allowed the signage to be completed at the Melton site. This was the final step in ensuring that Bacchus Marsh, Caroline Springs and Melton all have consistent Western Health branding, in line with the wider organisation.

WESTERN HEALTH UNIFORMS REQUIRED BY 1st JANUARY 2023.

As we head towards the end of 2022, now is a good time for staff whom are currently still wearing DjHS branded clothing to order new Western Health uniforms so they can start the New Year with correctly branded clothing.  You can place your order through the website portal here. Remember you will need to add your payroll number which you can find on your payslip and if you have any question please speak to your manager.

NURSING & MIDWIFERY

Centralisation of maternity pregnancy bookings going live from 21st November

From Monday the 21st of November, all referrals for women to receive pregnancy care at Western Health will be received in one central point. These referrals will then be reviewed and triaged, and women will be referred to either our Joan Kirner Women’s and Children’s campus or our Bacchus Marsh campus, with women to be allocated to their most local hospital, with consideration to any specialised care required.

This is an exciting milestone in further supporting the integration of our maternity services and we anticipate this will promote our Bacchus Marsh campus to be operating to its full capacity.

Transition of nurses and midwives from NW to HW pay run on 21st November

A reminder that from Monday 21st of November, all nurses and midwives at Bacchus Marsh and Melton whom are currently paid on the NW pay run will be transferred to the HW pay run. This is an important step in achieving consistency of operations across all Western Health sites.

For any further information, please contact Wendy Giddings – Director of Nursing and Midwifery at Wendy.Giddings@wh.org.au

Changes to Nursing and Midwifery Initiated Medications Procedure

Following extensive consultation and review, the Nurse and Midwife Initiated Medication Procedure has been updated to align processes at all Western Health sites. The updated PPG ‘Nurse and Midwife Initiated Medication’ can be found on PROMPT from this week.

All Nurses and Midwives who administer medications are required to familiarise themselves with these changes.

NEW IT HELP DESK

The new IT Helpdesk is up and running and has had a successful cut-over from the previous IT helpdesk, aligning with the Western Health organisational-wide Service Desk Portal (Cherwell). The new system will allow continuity across the organisation with all staff accessing various options for assistance:

  • online ticket system
  • a database allowing you to look up common issues and how to fix
  •  by phone

SMARTTRAK CAR BOOKING SYSTEM ONE MONTH IN

We are now one month in with the new car booking system. Overall, the system is working well, with 70 staff registered on the system. It operates from your Phone which allows flexibility and to update as you go.

A reminder to staff that you need to “check” in the car via the phone app before returning the keys. The best practice is to log the odometer reading into the app when you jump in the car and remember to add odometer reading when you have finished with the vehicle.

If you have any questions, please email WHLogistics@wh.org.au.

To gain access to the platform, users must sign up via the declaration form link as soon as possible – Driver Verification and Access Form

Did you know!

SPECIAL VISIT BY JASPER AT GRANT LODGE

As a pre Melbourne Cup activity, the residents and staff at Grant Lodge were very fortunate to have a visit from Jasper the quarter horse.

Residents had the opportunity to feed Jasper and you could see by the expression on many faces it brought back fond memories for those that once owned their own horses.

A big thank you to Denton, Jasper’s owner, who is the son of our very own Infection Control Coordinator, Candice Douglass. It was an incredibly kind gesture on behalf of them both and greatly appreciated by the residents and staff.
