Words from Russell – Appointment of Executive Director People, Culture and Communications

After an extensive external recruitment process, I am pleased to announce Adjunct Professor Sandy Schutte has been permanently appointed as the Executive Director of People, Culture and Communications.

Sandy has been acting in the role since June 2022, and in this time has demonstrated both passion and the skills that support and drive the Western Health values and strategy.

Sandy is well known and respected by many across Western Health, having joined us in 2018 as the Director of Education and Learning. During this time, Sandy undertook the General Manager role at Bacchus Marsh, Melton and Caroline Springs and was pivotal in providing operational management and values-based leadership through the amalgamation and transition phases.

As a nurse and midwife with human resource qualifications and an MBA, Sandy brings extensive knowledge and skills across the sector having worked at Austin Health for 15 years, four of which as the Director of Nursing for the Repatriation Hospital. She has also held a number of senior positions in the corporate sector in both South Africa and Australia.

Sandy brings experience and drive in designing solutions and cultures that enable workplaces to deliver contemporary best practice and maintain a focus on achieving sustainable change. She is committed to building a respectful, positive and future-focused workplace and supporting the provision of Best Care across the organisation.
