With the recent growth in points of care at The Sunshine Hospital, our main Pharmacy has reached capacity. An expansion of the current Pharmacy footprint from 350m² to 800m² is being undertaken to support clinical operations. The expansion accommodates for growth in staff numbers, installation of Automated Dispensing Cabinets (ADC’s) systems to automate many of the routine tasks and more efficiently store extensive stock holdings and the introduction of onsite medication manufacturing in an Aseptic Suite.

    Pharmacy Automated Dispensing Cabinet (ADC)

The Pharmacy ADC is a storage and retrieval system. This system optimises medication storage and stock flow. There will be two pharmacy ADCs named Nemo & Dory- “swimming through medication stock” – This storage system will be approximately 6.5m long, 2.5m wide and 3m high. It has capacity to store approximately 40,000 medications packs.

This automation system also has additional features:

“Crate” known as BAYMAX – “Your personal healthcare companion”– a distribution system for automated ward box filling.

“Prologue” named S.A.S.S.I (sunshine’s automated super sorter intelligence)- this is a sorting system when stock arrives from supplier

Together the Pharmacy Automation System will change the way medications are received, sorted and supplied. It improves efficiency and accuracy, ensuring patients receive the best possible care with regards to medication safety.
