Construction of the new $900 million Melton Hospital will begin in 2024 and is set to open in 2029, serving the growing communities of Melbourne’s outer west.
The new hospital will include at least 274 beds, a 24-hour emergency department, intensive care unit and services including general medical/surgical, maternity and neonatal, mental health, radiology and outpatient care.
Once completed, Melton Hospital will have the capacity to treat 130,000 patients each year and see almost 60,000 patients in the emergency department.
The new hospital will provide an essential link with services at the public hospitals in the western region – including Sunshine Hospital and the $1.5 billion new Footscray Hospital.
The project is being delivered by the Victorian Health Building Authority, in partnership with Western Health, who will operate the hospital. Construction is expected to get underway in 2024 and be finished in 2029.
