AT WESTERN HEALTH, WE WELCOME YOU – NO MATTER YOUR GENDER OR SEXUAL ORIENTATION.

On May 17, IDAHOBIT (International Day against Homophobia, Biphobia, Intersexism & Transphobia) is a day to come together to share stories, learn, teach and celebrate our LGBTQIA+ community at Western Health.

This day of global awareness takes place each year on May 17, a significant date in the ongoing fight for equality: On this day in 1990, the World Health Organisation declassified homosexuality as a mental disorder.

Over 130 countries now celebrate IDAHOBIT.

This year for IDAHOBIT, we are launching pronoun stickers. Pronouns are one way people refer to each other and themselves. By wearing a sticker it is an easy way to let people around you know that you support LGBTQIA+ inclusion.

Whether you’re a member of the LGBTQIA+ community or an ally – allow patients, staff and our wider community to feel welcomed and included by wearing your sticker with pride!

Come visit one of our IDAHOBIT stalls on May 17 and talk with us about how we can make a change at Western Health.

Webinars

On Thursday 19 May, we’re hosting two events that explore the topics of trans and gender identity and diversity.

At 12pm, join comedian Kirsty Webeck and cabaret performer Reuben Kaye for a respectful, informative and entertaining webinar discussion about creating a culture where everyone’s experience and expression of their identity is not only respected but embraced.

At 2pm, join Thorne Harbour Health for a webinar session about gender pronouns and how using them contributes to a safe and welcoming health service. Thorne Harbour Health (formerly the Victorian AIDS Council) is a community-controlled organisation working to improve the health and wellbeing of LGBTQIA+ communities and people living with HIV. Please register in advance for this session.
