It’s time to share your views to help us improve!

Each year the Victorian Public Sector Commission runs the independent People Matter Survey 2023.

It provides staff with the opportunity to share their thoughts and opinions anonymously on the things that Western Health does well and the areas where we can improve.

The survey helps us understand what we do well and what we can do better.

By having your say, you can help us find the best way to support you and improve our workplace and culture.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

  • What is the People Matter Survey?

The People Matter Survey is run  independently of Western Health by the Victorian Public Sector Commission and provides staff with an anonymous way to share their experiences about their workplace.

It asks for your experience about different aspects of your workplace, including: equal employment opportunity, job satisfaction, career development, wellbeing, and diversity and inclusion.

The de-identified feedback is reported back to Western Health and the results are communicated to senior leaders, so that we can take action to address any potential issues, or understand areas where we are hitting the mark.

  • Why should I take part?

Participation is voluntary, however we encourage you to take part because having your say matters.

In the past, your anonymous feedback has resulted in direct action to address workplace and cultural issues identified.

This includes: policies to address fatigue management and flexible work opportunities (in-progress), additional development programs, and initiatives aimed at addressing employee psychosocial safety and sense of wellbeing.

Every day these programs are making a difference to our culture.

The survey also provides Western Health with benchmarking against comparable workplaces.

  • How do I complete the survey?

Start your survey by clicking here.

You can also scan the QR code below on your phone.

If you can’t do the survey in one sitting, you can save and continue later from the same desktop or mobile device.

  • How do I know my privacy and anonymity are protected?

The Victorian Public Sector Commission (VPSC) runs the independent survey and uses strict rules to protect your privacy and anonymity at every stage of the survey.

Western Health does not see your completed survey responses.

You have the option to respond to demographic questions, such as: age or gender, with ‘prefer not to say’.

    To protect you, the VPSC:

    • de-identify all survey response data provided to Western Health
    • only provide survey results for teams or demographic groups when they have 10 or more responses
    • don’t collect your date of birth or employee ID
    • don’t link free-text comment reporting to any other survey information.

All information is handled in line with Victorian and Commonwealth law.

Read the People matter survey data collection statement to find out more.

  • Are there any prizes on offer this year for participation?

To show our appreciation, staff can opt to enter a raffle when they reach the end of the People Matter Survey.

They will go in the draw to win one of the following prizes:

    ·         Gold Class Experience eVouchers

    ·         $100 Vouchers

    ·         Massage/Day Spa Vouchers (endota)

The raffle will be drawn throughout the survey period.

Winners will be contacted directly to arrange collection of their prize.

Winner’s names will be published on Westerly (unless they wish to opt out).

We will also be revealing an exciting prize for the division/s with the highest response rate. Find more details about the division competition here.

  • What is the division competition?

This year’s division competition has our divisions/directorates divided into three groups.

The highest response rate in each group will receive funds they can allocate to team lunches and meals.

You can track your divisions progress and learn more here.

To win, encourage as any members of your team as possible to fill in the survey  by November 17, 2023.

  • Who can help me with the survey?

The People and Culture team are here to support teams who may need extra support to encourage or support participation, including staff working on the frontline.

If you require support completing the survey, or have a question, please contact Western Health’s survey leader Scott Peterson: scott.peterson@wh.org.au, 0401 357 575.

  • Why does the survey include so many questions about me, such as my race and sexuality?

The People Matter Survey includes questions about your identity so that Western Health can see if there are particular groups who are having significantly different experiences from others. Please note that results for demographic groups can only be seen at the organisational level, and not at the divisional or unit level.

  • Does anyone else receive this data?

The Victorian Public Sector Commission provides aggregated organisational data to the Victorian Commission for Gender Equality in the Public Sector, which in turn provides data to the federal Workplace Gender Equality Agency.

  • How is the People Matter Survey different to the recent Pulse Survey?

The Wellbeing Pulse Survey is a short survey that gives us a snapshot of how people are doing from a burnout and psychological safety perspective.

Whereas the People Matter Survey has a broader lens across the entire workplace experience, includingP workplace culture, manager support, leadership, and opportunities for equal employment.

We can look at the People Matter Survey results across different divisions/directorates and specific departments and groups within those, if they receive enough responses. This allows us to provide targeted feedback for smaller areas.
