A heartfelt "thank you" from a fellow nurse and daughter of a WH patient

“My very first 3 months of nursing was spent on this ward being supported as a grad by these nurses, under ANUM Yvonne, at the time. It was a rewarding introduction to nursing and the cruel disease that is dementia.

Years later I experienced the care and support this special team of dedicated and empathetic nurses give first hand, when my dad was admitted here with a challenging behaviour that his nursing home found too difficult to handle.

These nurses, along with many others, including Lisa Shaw, Karina Box, Nicole Louise Backus, Christine McKinnon Madeleine, the Aged Care and Allied Health Teams, all worked with my dad and our family for many months to find strategies to help him feel safe during personal care. This transitional period was the first time my mum felt some reprieve, knowing that my dad could receive the care he needed with a challenging behaviour. They then found an appropriate facility for him where my dad continued to receive amazing support, giving my mum and my sisters all peace of mind throughout my dad’s final years.

{I} will always have a special place in my heart for this ward and all who work in it (nurses, PSAs, Carmen the ward clerk). I really don’t know what we would have done without them.

Congratulations on 20 years, {I} can only imagine how many lives you’ve touched. Thank you for all you do.”
