Adjunct Professor Shane Crowe

BN, BEd, MEnt, MLeadership, ProfCert, GAICD, RN, MACN.

Shane joined Western Health in September 2017 as an experienced nurse leader in both the public health service and governmental sector. Shane is an Adjunct Professor at Deakin University and Victoria University, and in his role as Chief Nursing & Midwifery Officer Shane is responsible for the professional leadership of over 6,500 nurses and midwives. Based at Sunshine Hospital, Shane leads major workforce, quality, governance and service development initiatives, with a strong focus on safe, high-quality care, workforce sustainability and contemporary models of practice. He is committed to strengthening professional capability, supporting positive workplace culture and ensuring nursing and midwifery continue to play a central role in delivering Best Care for the communities served by Western Health.

Shane’s previous roles include Chief Nursing Officer (Austin Health), Project Director, Olivia Newton-John Cancer & Wellness Centre, Manager Health Workforce Reform (Department of Health) & Director of Nursing (Austin Health).

During his time at the Department, Shane led the introduction of nurse and midwifery to patient ratios legislation for public hospitals and health services and was responsible for the planning and drafting of the legislation.  Shane received the Department of Health Staff Excellence Award (Safe Care Act drafting) for his leadership during this time.

Shane is involved in mentoring other nurse and midwifery senior leaders both internally and externally.
