Adjunct Professor Shane Crowe

Shane joined Western Health in September 2017 as an experienced nurse leader in both the public health service and governmental sector. Shane is an Adjunct Professor at Deakin University, and in his role as ED Nursing & Midwifery Shane is responsible for the professional leadership of over 3,300 nurses and midwives and delivering the ‘Strategic Nursing & Midwifery Workforce Plan’.

Shane’s previous roles include Chief Nursing Officer (Austin Health), Project Director, Olivia Newton-John Cancer & Wellness Centre, Manager Health Workforce Reform (DHHS) & Director of Nursing (Austin Health).

During his time at DHHS, Shane led the introduction of nurse and midwifery to patient ratios legislation for public hospitals and health services and was responsible for the planning and drafting of the legislation.  Shane received the DHHS Staff Excellence Award (Safe Care Act drafting) for his leadership during his time with the DHHS.

Shane has a keen interest in strategic workforce planning, quality and innovation, governance, workforce development and building the capacity and capability of individuals and teams to deliver Best Care. Shane is involved in mentoring other nurse and midwifery senior leaders both internally and externally.
