  • Nursing & Midwifery Overview

    The Nursing and Midwifery Directorate:

    • Provides leadership and direction to Western Health’s nursing and midwifery workforce, supporting professional practice ensuring innovative research based nursing and midwifery care to Western Health care recipients.
    • Has operational responsibility for the Best Care Governance & Support Division, Nursing & Midwifery Workforce Unit, Infection Prevention, Aboriginal Health, Diversity and Consumer Inclusion and a number of expert nurse consultants.
    • Provides strategic and operational advice to Executive and Divisions on nursing and midwifery professional needs in line with the organisation’s strategic priorities.
    • Works collaboratively with other directorates and divisions to ensure that Western Health is providing quality care and a positive patient care experience.
    • Oversees the professional management of the nursing and midwifery workforce, via credentialing, scope of practice oversight, leadership development and workforce development.
    • Provides the Nursing and Midwifery Workforce Unit for Western Health, overseeing workforce strategic planning, recruitment and delivery of a sustainable supplementary workforce, reducing reliance on agency resources.
    • The Best Care Governance & Support Division manages Western Health’s ‘Best Care’ clinical governance program. This includes quality systems – including health service accreditation processes, Best Care Coordination, Patient Safety & Clinical Risk and Patient Experience
    • Collaboratively work towards Western Health’s success and sustainability with the National Safety & Quality Service Standards, with a leadership role in all standards, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health and advances nursing and midwifery research and learning opportunities, supporting application of innovative research based approaches with a focus on translating research into nursing and midwifery practice.
