Adjunct Associate Professor Jo Mapes

Jo is a Fellow of the Australian College of Nursing, and on the Victorian Board of the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia. She has extensive experience as a nursing leader and has worked in both public and private health sectors both in Australia and overseas. Her experience extends to the development and implementation of strategic change with a demonstrated capacity to lead and develop people in delivering better outcomes across systems, work units, teams and consumers.

Jo joined us from Eastern Health where she was a Director of Nursing, and she was seconded to DH to develop a nursing advanced practice capability framework and to lead the central workforce deployment strategy for the state-wide COVID-19 response.

Jo also has a strong background in nursing workforce, a strong commitment to professional Nursing and Midwifery standards, and the provision of quality nursing/midwifery care to improve patient experiences and outcomes.

Jo commenced with Western Health on the 9 September 2020, and was bestowed the title of Adjunct Associate Professor by Deakin University in June 2023 in recognition of her contribution to the nursing profession.
