On Thursday 29 February 2024 Western Health hosted 3 inspiring nursing researchers:

  • A/Prof Charlotte Simony, Director of research at the Institute of Regional Health Research, University of Southern Denmark
  • A/Prof Ditte Høgsgaard, Post doc at PROgrez & The Close Health Service Region Zealand, Institute for Regional Health Research, University of Southern Denmark
  • A/Prof Mette Jule Rothmann, from Novo Nordisk Steno Diabetes centre in Odense and linked to the University of Southern Denmark.

A/Prof Høgsgaard and A/Prof Rothmann (pictured right with Adjunct Professor Shane Crowe, Professor Rochelle Wynne, Professor Bodil Rasmussen, A/Prof Craig Nelson and Cath Grant) presented their innovative work in the chronic disease space to a Nursing & Midwifery Grand Round.

Since 2013 A/Prof Høgsgaard has been researching how we can improve and change cross-sectoral collaboration to strengthen coherence, safety, and satisfaction in the patient’s transition. The overall research approach is a participatory design involving health professionals from hospitals/municipalities, GP, patients, and relatives. A/Prof Høgsgaard is researching how virtual meetings between 4-parts (Patient, GP, Municipality, and hospital) can contribute to better and safer cross-sectoral collaboration in transition care.

A/Prof Rothmann is an Assistant Professor, Program leader and a Clinical Research Nurse at Steno Diabetes Center Odense and University of Southern Denmark. She has been running a research program on diabetes care, user involvement and technology focusing on the life course and transitions point in life with diabetes since 2018. In 2022 a national research program on Multidisciplinary Team Conferences was initiated in order to improve coordination in care and to increase quality of life in patients with diabetes, and to facilitate learning and collaboration across specialties and sectors. The aim was to flip the pattern, put the patients in the center, and have multiple specialists gather around them.

In addition to presenting at the Grand Round, our Danish guests engaged with our Western@Home leadership team and Nursing & Midwifery leaders to share learning, experiences and look at opportunities for future collaboration.
