Western Health’s Chair of Nursing Professor Rochelle Wynne has partnered with academics in the Deakin University School of Nursing and Midwifery (Dr Emily Tomlinson, Dr Monica Schoch, Associate Professor Jo McDonall) to examine genAI’s evolving role in clinical practice.

This collaboration aims to investigate multidisciplinary perspectives on genAI’s applications, ethical implications, and potential for enhancing patient care. Through understanding current clinical practices and challenges, the team will develop curriculum that prepares nursing and midwifery students for a technology-enhanced healthcare environment. This partnership ensures graduates can responsibly integrate genAI into their clinical practice while maintaining high standards of professional care and ethics.

Dr Tomlinson will be spending time at Western Health to talk to our nurses and midwives about their understanding of AI and its application in healthcare.

The findings will be used to inform curriculum development for undergraduate nurses and midwives.

The FutureFocus GenAI Program is an unfunded bespoke initiative led by Deakin Learning Futures and Graduate Employment.
