Bacchus Marsh/Melton Transition

As Western Health strengthens the services provided to our communities in the West and delivers high-quality care at Bacchus Marsh, Melton and Caroline Springs, the transition process is facilitating new models of care and building a positive and supportive culture. Working groups are being established, allowing involvement from passionate staff to help create an integrated service.

  • Overview
    • There are 3 key stages in the project with associated measures of success:
      1. Transition (0-12 months)
      2. Integration (12-24 months)
      3. Optimisation or harmonisation (24-36 months)
    • In order to achieve these three stages successfully and seamlessly it is important to implement:
      • A transition framework that will provide governance and structure for the entirety of the transition,
      • An interim operational structure to ensure business continuity and safe, effective clinical care delivery, and
      • Robust project governance including a skilled project team with associated depth and rigour in project planning, activity and reporting.
  • Vision
    • To ensure a seamless transition for patients, staff and the community into one health service.
    • To integrate the former DjHS into the structure and business of Western Health.
    • To explore, refine and where appropriate, implement new models of care that are safe, right, coordinated and person-centred.
    • To engage staff authentically and continue to build a culture where people are proud to work
    • To ensure staff are not overburdened
    • To support staff to continue with existing business as usual whilst being enabled to participate in projects during all phases of the transition to become one health service.
    • To engage the local community of Bacchus marsh, Melton and Caroline Springs to ensure they understand the value of the process and, when appropriate, can contribute.
  • Governance
    • To successfully merge the two health services and ensure robust governance for the entirety of the process, the implementation of an appropriate committee structure with clear responsibilities, objectives and two-way reporting lines is essential.
    • To support transition activity, a Transition Steering Committee and a number of Working Groups have gained momentum with Leads and in some instances Co-Leads appointed. The key working groups are:
      • Finance and Logistics
      • Governance, Legal and Risk
      • Clinical, Community Services and Quality
      • Workforce, Culture and Communications
      • Community Engagement Committee
    • We are committed to giving staff a voice in all elements of the transition activity and are exploring ways to facilitate this through transition staff focus groups and transition representative roles that will hold memberships in the working groups. Another key way staff can be involved is through our “designing the culture work”. This initiative is focused on integrating the Bacchus Marsh and Melton cultures into Western Health. This will be a sub-committee connected to the workforce, culture and communication working group.

Transition Committee Membership

Thank you to all staff wishing to participate in the transition committees. We are pleased to have the Transition Committee chart uploaded detailing the committees and members, which is available for all staff to view via the attached link (Transition Committee Structure).

BOB is a culture and leadership development program which offers support and opportunities for you to identify and reflect on key priorities as staff journey through this time of transition.  In doing so, the program will draw on skills and expertise to help shape the type of organisational culture staff would like to be part of.

This program has been developed specifically for staff at Western Health within Bacchus Marsh and Melton sites.  Read more on the BMM intranet.
