On Sunday 28 August, a major incident occurred outside Sunshine Hospital on Majorca Street, leading to a significant Victoria Police response.

The incident led to the locking down of the Sunshine Hospital site for approximately two hours.

I would like to express my sincere appreciation for the quick thinking and thorough response of all staff who managed the complex impacts on the Hospital site and services.

This was a very uncertain and stressful time for our staff working on Sunday. Can I also acknowledge staff who also played an important role in communicating with our patients and visitors as the situation rapidly evolved.

On Sunday following the incident a thorough debrief with some 100 staff who had been working at the time was undertaken.

Yesterday a group of senior leaders met to discuss the incident. A detailed assessment of our response to the incident has been commenced which will inform any additional measures that we may need consider in the event of any future similar incidents.

The safety and wellbeing of our staff is of the highest priority. If you have been affected by this incident and have any ongoing concerns, please speak with your manager and a reminder that you can also seek support through the Employee Assistance Program on 1800 099 444.
